A Landmark Reborn

Upon its completion in 1910, The Liberty Trust (previously known as the First National Bank) building was Roanoke's landmark of modernity, being the most advanced fireproof structure in the city and one that introduced the latest technological improvements in plumbing and heating.  The incorporation of the newly-invented electric elevator was a key element in its multi-story design and prominence.

The structure was designed by John Keevan Peebles of Norfolk, one of Virginia's leading early 20th century architects and designer of the 1904-05 additions to the Virginia State Capitol.

Regarded as the most well-preserved and appointed Edwardian era bank building in Virginia, The Liberty Trust is proudly featured on the National Register of Historic Places.
